Why start a ministry?

As Christians, our purpose in sojourning here is not to be some heavenly sales force pushing God’s ‘fire insurance’ on the world. We are not here to convince, or cajole, or even ‘win-over souls for Jesus’. We are here, simply to testify of our God in and with our lives. We are heralds and ambassadors, not salesmen. We are heralds and ambassadors of the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God”. We are spreading the call of God through word and deed so that those who are called, who see His glory in us, may be drawn to Him.

“Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-7

As for the brothers and sisters whether natural or adopted, already in God’s family, we must be diligent in admonishing and encouraging each other in the spirit of grace and love to build up the Body of Christ to His glory.

“Take care, brothers and sisters, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.” Hebrews 3:12-14

I am convinced that seeking God earnestly and wholeheartedly, sharing with one another the truth that God reveals in our lives and being love to everyone with grace and charity is precisely the will of God for every believer. So why start this ministry? To do the will of the Father.

I feel the wisdom and understanding God progressively imparts to me and indeed every believer, through life and scripture is meant to be shared with others. God is all about multiplication and when we share what God has done in us through word and action we are resounding the glory of God and that I believe is our ultimate purpose. With this at its heart, I am beginning this ministry with a simple blog (Heralding the Light), to testify, encourage and share with every reader I can what wondrous things God has revealed and done in my life and connect them with other Godly and encouraging resources.

Most recently, God planted a small nugget of wisdom within me that fuels this ministry. “Do what you can, with what you have, right where you are at, dedicate it all to Me and watch it multiply.” I intend to do just that! Yes, I have heard similar sermons and speeches before but it simply didn’t bear any fruit, until God breathed the life of meaning into it for me.

Dear Lord,

Your Word says in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established,” so Father, I dedicate this endeavor to You. Please bless my hands and my words that their works may bear much fruit for You and bring You all the honor and glory forever.
